Christmas Phonics Phase 5 Starters
Make your phonics session fun in the lead up to Christmas. Kick off your phonics sessions with these five starter activities based on phase 5 sounds or Set 2 & 3 RWI. The slides finish with an exemplar of a letter to Santa.
Christmas Sentences EYFS and Key Stage 1
The slides show Christmas pictures and the children are encouraged to describe what they can see. The slides show examples of nouns and adjectives. The children are then encouraged to verbally create simple sentences about the pictures and then to write some sentences. This resource is suitable for Reception and Year 1. This resource is also suitable for low ability children in Year 2. There is a writing template to accompany the slides.

Christmas Big Write Year 1 and Year 2
Christmas Big Write for Year 1 and Year 2. The slides have the learning objectives, key words, warm up activity, explanation of the story structure and a photo prompt. Comes with a self reflection writing frame.
Christmas poetry Year 1 and Year 2
Christmas poetry lesson for Year 1 or Year 2. The outcome of the lesson is to create a senses poem using the structure, “I can see…”. The slides focus on parts of a sentence, highlighting the position of adjectives and prepositions. There are spaces on the slides for teachers to add in Christmas pictures/photos to engage the students. The slides also come with a simple writing template with a space for the teacher to include a photo.

Phonics qu sound Phase 3
Simple and easy to use phonics slide. The focus sound is -qu. The slides focus on range of skills including blending, word recognition, spelling and recapping previous sounds. It also includes a sound spotting game and correcting the spelling in a sentence.
It is perfect for a short phonics lesson!

Phase 3 Phonics ee sound
Simple and easy to use free phonics slides, for the sound “ee”. Phase 3, Letters and Sounds or Set 2 Read Write Inc. The slides include a recap of previous sounds, words with the “ee” sound, blending and reading a sentence practise, a sound spotting game and correct the sentences. The slides also include a tricky word and an opportunity to practise some spelling.

Talk for Writing Little Red Riding Hood
Do you do Talk for Writing in your school? Are you a Year 2 teacher? If the answer is yes, then look no further!
I’m sharing 3 weeks worth of planning of a fiction unit for a warning talk based on Little Red Writing Hood. Yes you heard correct, 3 weeks of planning! This is the entire unit. There are several resources to go with the planning, all of which are editable to suit your class. This resource would provide a great chunk of your planning and ultimately save you lots of time.
The planning is based on Pie Corbett’s text of Little Red Riding Hood.
Talk for Writing - The Magic Shell - Wishing Tale
This is a 3 week unit based on a fiction, wishing tale called The Magic Shell. It would fit in nicely in the Spring term or at the start of the Summer term because the toolkit stretches the more able children helping them to achieve greater depth.
Toolikit - inverted commas, different words for said, question and exclamation marks.
Week 1 - Immitation
Children orally rehearse the story the story of The Magic Shell, they work on the toolkit for the unit and box up the story to learn the structure.
Week 2 - Innovation - The Magic Stick
children learn an innovation version of the wishing tale. This pack includes the innovated text so you don’t need to invent on yourself. Children work on spotting the toolkit within the innovation and have the opportunity to innovate their own wishing tale under the guidance of the teacher.
Week 3 - Independent Write
Children box up their own wishing tale and spend the week writing their tale.
This pack includes a detailed 3 week plan which notes for scaffolding for different levels and children on the adpapted curriculum. It also includes powerpoints for the toolkit and some worksheet reosurces. It includes both texts for the innovation and immitation. All resources are editable.
